Import documentation

Import public GitBook or Zendesk documentation as drafts and review pages before publishing.

Documentello can import public GitBook sites and Zendesk help centers, including supported pages, files, hierarchy, and languages.

Imports add new draft pages. They do not change existing pages or publish anything automatically.

Start an import

  1. Open Imports.
  2. Select New import.
  3. Choose GitBook or Zendesk.
  4. Enter the public documentation URL.
  5. Select Preview import.

Documentello first discovers the available pages and languages.

Choose content

In the preview:

  1. Select the languages to include.
  2. Map an unsupported or unspecified source language to a supported reader language.
  3. Select the pages to import.
  4. Review parent pages that are included automatically.
  5. Select Import pages.

When several languages are selected, each language becomes an ordinary top-level section.

While an import runs

Page editing is paused until the import finishes so the imported hierarchy stays consistent. You can close the dialog and return later. The import history shows imported, failed, and pending pages.

Canceling an import keeps pages that were already imported. Failed pages can be retried.

After the import

Imported pages remain drafts. Review their content, apply any suggested navigation or search settings, then publish them when ready.
