Troubleshooting
Resolve common publishing, domain, import, file, AI, and editing problems.
Start with the message shown in the dashboard. Documentello keeps failed operations recoverable and avoids silently replacing saved work.
A page is not visible to readers
Check both publication levels:
- Open the page and confirm it has a published version.
- Open Site settings and confirm the site is published.
- Confirm the subscription is active.
- If you recently changed the page's position or URL slug, open it from the current page tree.
Saving a draft does not publish it. Publishing the site does not publish unfinished page drafts.
A custom domain is still pending
Open Domains and compare the displayed CNAME name and value with the record at your DNS provider.
- Enter only the hostname in Documentello, without
https://or a path. - Keep the CNAME record in place.
- If your provider automatically appends the domain, use only the required host portion in its Name field.
- Allow time for DNS changes, then select Check status.
Your documentello.site address remains available while the custom domain is pending.
An import stopped or some pages failed
Open Imports, select the import, and review each page's status and message. Select Retry failed pages or Continue import when available.
Canceling an import keeps pages already imported. Imported pages remain drafts until you publish them.
A file cannot be uploaded
Check that:
- The file is a supported type.
- It is no larger than 50 MB.
- No more than 10 files are selected at once.
- The site has free storage.
Files in trash still count toward storage. Restore or permanently delete them under File trash, or increase storage capacity.
AI features are unavailable
Open Site settings and confirm the relevant assistant is enabled. Then open Usage and check the AI allowance.
Writing suggestions and visitor answers pause when the allowance is exhausted. Search continues to work.
The editor detected another saved version
Your open edits are preserved. Load the latest saved version, compare it with your work, then choose either Use latest saved content or I've reviewed it, keep my edits.
Do not keep local edits until you have reviewed the saved version and merged anything you need.
You cannot change a setting
Some settings are owner-only. Editors can manage pages, files, imports, feedback, and publication, but only the owner can manage appearance, domains, billing, collaborators, and site deletion.
