Connect an AI agent

Give an external AI agent controlled MCP access to read and maintain one documentation site.

Documentello provides a Model Context Protocol endpoint for external AI agents. Each connection is limited to one site and uses the permissions of the member who created it.

Create a connection

  1. Open Tools.
  2. Under Agent access, copy the MCP endpoint.
  3. Select Generate token.
  4. Copy the bearer token before closing the dialog.
  5. Add the endpoint and bearer token to your MCP-compatible agent.

The token is shown only once. Store it securely.

What an agent can do

A connected agent can:

  • List and read pages
  • Create and update drafts
  • Move and organize pages
  • Publish changed pages
  • Move pages and their descendants to trash
  • List files already uploaded through the dashboard

Agents cannot upload files. Upload a needed file in the Documentello dashboard first, then ask the agent to list files again.

Keep access safe

Anyone with the token can change the site within your role, including publishing pages or moving published pages to trash.

Use Regenerate token if the current token may have been exposed. The old token stops working immediately. Use Revoke token to disconnect the agent completely.

Each member manages a separate token. Removing an editor also revokes that editor's token.
